While most of sneakerhead culture may revolve around sneakers originally intended for either basketball or running, it is definitely not limited to just that. A select group of past and present skaters are also infatuated with retro versions (or the originals when they can be found) or 90s’ and early 2000s skate shoe. In fact it is popular enough to have a dedicated hashtag on instagram, #sk8shoewars

éS, part of the Sole Technology triumvirate that also includes Emerica and Etnies under its umbrella, is one of those cult brands that collectors and general skateboard nostalgists revere the most. After unfortunately going on a “creative retreat” in 2012, éS returned in 2014 and has been killing since thanks to reissues of classy puffy models such as the Accel OG, and updated versions of classics such as the Accel Slim and the SAL. Mekimati, the full length éS video released in 2000 is perhaps considered one of the best videos of all time.

Now, éS has re-released their most requested shoe in a limited edition white and green colorway (one of the original colors) of the SLB, which originally came out back in 1996. They served as Salvador Lucas Barbier’s second pro-model, following the SAL 23. While two of éS’ most famous riders, Eric Koston and Chad Muska, would receive pro-models the next year, Sal was the first pro for éS and both of his shoes developed became cult classics. Almost ahead of its time, the SLB was even the first skate shoe to feature an internal neoprene sock to keep the foot locked in snugly.

While slightly updated and slimmer to fit today’s skate show standards, the design very much resembles the original. The new features include high quality leather with suede side panels, highly durable and flexible outsole, an STI Open Cell Foam insole for comfort and breathability, and the old faithful triple stitched toe piece.

Don’t sleep on this release, as the quantities are limited, so get yourself a pair before they’re gone.! More colors will be available as part of a more general release this coming spring. Hell YéS!
