Before Pokémon GO, before Call of Duty, before Guitar Hero, before Grand Theft Auto, and before Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater we were introduced to a magical 8-bit world where a damn princess kept getting herself caught and always had to be saved by at least one plumber.
Millennials everywhere are squealing with delight as news of the original Nintendo Entertainment System being re-released this fall quickly spread.
The new system will feature an upgraded HDMI output with 30 classic games for only $59.99. The newest Nintendo console, the NX, will be released March 2017, so this mini throwback to a classic, will have to tide us over until then.
You see kids; there was a time where the 3D world only existed in reality. We explored alternate universes while also connecting on a human level. When we were out of lives, we were dead… plain and simple… we had to start over. Usually we opted for going outside for hide and seek, skateboarding, or toilet papering someone’s house. I am not sure if the Game Genie will integrate into this tiny system. #MiniGameGenie.
This fall we will have the option to instantly play:
The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Bubble Bobble, and Final Fantasy. At the same time dive into a deeper world of fan favorite such as Tecmo Bowl, Punch Out!!, Ninja Gaiden, and Kirby’s Adventure. (Full list below)
I remember that one Christmas when Santa brought a Nintendo Entertainment System into our house. I don’t remember exactly what year it was but my first thought after pulling away the festive paper only to reveal not just Super Mario Bros. …but Duck Hunt as well. My first thought was, “So, this is mine and I don’t have to share it with my older sister?”
I spent the next decade and a half playing as Luigi. My middle name instantly changed from Norman to Player 2.
I’m talking about a console that gave us Paperboy, who terrorized the streets jumping off of sick ass (random) jumps while he threw way more “papes” than could fit in his miniscule bag. Paperboy is the only game I wish would be on the #miniNES.
The small system will come with one controller and an option to purchase the second (Only for games allowing the option) and players will apparently be able to save their in-game progress. Online connectivity and integration into a user’s Nintendo accounts are not available, as the good Lord intended.
