In their new music video for the track “The Shit That We’ve Been Through”, hip hop duo Atmosphere enlists the talents of 1Light Films director Andrew Melby and tattoo artist Eric Eckert, who together provide a stunning visual that showcases a truly up close and personal tattoo experience.

The video, which was shot in the So Cal Tattoo shop, portrays a pin up girl with a face that is half-skull, playing one of Slug’s more cheeky lyrics in the song, “a little ink with a kiss and a wink.”

For two decades now, the duo, made up of the whimsical rhymer Slug (Sean Daley) and DJ/producer Ant (Anthony Davis), has created thought-provoking music together.

The Minneapolis-based group made waves earlier this summer with the release of their seventh studio album Fishing Blues, which recently earned the top spot on Billboard’s list of Current Rap Albums.

With their recent chart-topping album, Atmosphere proved that they’ve been able to withstand the test of time, and their new music video shows that they can withstand a little pain too.

“The Shit That We’ve Been Through” is a bluesy track about a tense and troubled relationship, one the quick-spitting lyricist Slug gives you front row seats for. As for the video, it truly shows the art of tattooing in a stimulating light, showcasing the entire process, from the mechanism of the tattoo gun to the painfully beautiful inking of the skin.

The latest album, which features the likes of DOOM, Aesop Rock, and Kool Keith, is available on all major streaming platforms, and can also be purchased in physical format through Fifth Element.
