Glass Candy Releases Menacing New “Halloween” Music Video

The five-year-old track by the Johnny Jewel-led Glass Candy gets a visual reboot right in time for Devil's night.

Back in October 2011, the Portland-based electronic music duo Glass Candy released the seasonal track “Halloween”, a pulsating track originally released as a teaser for their yet-to-be-released album Body Work. Five years later, their fans are still eagerly awaiting what would be their third studio album, and have reinvigorated this old track with a new music video.

Courtesy of their record label Italians Do It Better, which has had its hands full (not) releasing new material from the electronic band Chromatics, Glass Candy’s “Halloween” finally has an accompanying music video half a decade later. The track pays homage to filmmaker John Carpenter and his classic slasher film Halloween, and has been given an audible and visual upgrade in time for the upcoming holiday.

The new version of the music video, directed by Rene & Radka, stars Isla Ferrier as a menacing little girl who ventures through spider webs and swings lifelessly in her front yard. The video gives the song a completely different feel from the fast-paced visual released with it back in 2011, which has a colorfully spooky and lo-fi experience in and of itself.

In a way, by relaunching the track, producer Johnny Jewel and singer Ida No reaffirm the hope that Body Work may actually be coming soon. Whether the new version of the track is hinting at the release of the highly anticipated album or not remains to be seen, but knowing Glass Candy, it could easily either be a trick or a treat.
