In 1982, Afrika Bambaataa and the Soulsonic Force dropped a record called "Planet Rock" that would shape how hip hop music was created moving forward. Part of what made the record so influential was its usage of the sounds from the Roland TR-808 drum machine. The Roland TR-808 went on to be used for many pioneering acts in hip hop and other genres respectably. Now, Kaytranada has given his take on the classic song by Bambaataa. Kay deemed his version the "Planet Invasion Remix,” and it has his patented style of bounce that the Canadian producer specializes in.

Kaytranada's "Planet Invasion Remix" of "Planet Rock" is set to appear in the documentary 808, which takes an in-depth look at the history behind the iconic and influential drum machine. Afrika Bambaataa, along with the Beastie Boys, Pharrell, Questlove, Rick Rubin, and more are set to appear in the documentary.

Until then, listen Kaytranada's take on "Planet Rock" here.
