The Grammy-winning producer and musician joins Uncle Snoop on GGN.

Terrace Martin is the man artists go to when they want to bridge the gap between sounds and create something fresh. The son of studio musician Curly Martin, the 37-year-old producer, multi-instrumentalist, and artist grew up surrounded by jazz in Crenshaw and Inglewood, but also his generation’s form of musical expression, hip-hop.

Martin has channeled his deep love for both genres, as well as funk, soul, and classical, into his own unique sounds and built a booming production career working with rising stars and legends across genres, from Kendrick Lamar and YG to Robert Glasper, Snoop Dogg to Herbie Hancock and Quincy Jones. His name was already ringing bells when, earlier this year, he won two Grammy awards for his important contributions to longtime collaborator Lamar’s brilliant 2015 album, To Pimp a Butterfly.

Martin was a teenager when he first began working with Snoop. Since then, the two have collaborated on several albums, including 2004’s R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece, 2006’s Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, and 2008’s Ego Trippin. In addition to studio time, they’ve also spent significant time together on tour, so when Martin joined the big homie on GGN the easy brotherly vibe kicked right in as they discussed working with musical legends and crazy people, the true meaning of pimping, and his sixth studio album, Velvet Portraits, released in April on his new label, Sounds of Crenshaw Records.
