Virginia is for Lovers, which is why Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa made the Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater in Virginia Beach the next stop for The High Road Summer Tour

Virginia was the most prosperous British colony and served an important role in the signing of the Declaration of Independence.  Virginia also had prior success with smoke-able plants when the state’s economy rose from the ashes of the Civil War through the cultivation of tobacco during Reconstruction.

The state boasts diversity in music with history in hip-hop, blues, folk, and rock n’ roll.  Patsy Cline, Chris Brown, Dave Grohl, Pharrell Williams, Dave Mathews Band, GWAR, Missy Elliot, and Lamb of God are among the mega-talent to come from the commonwealth.

A host to FloydFest and the MACRoCk festival each year, Virginia also contains a slew of music venues.  In addition to traditional jazz, folk, and blues venues, Strange Matter (formerly known as Twisters, Club 929, The Nanci Raygun, and Bagel Czar) was a thriving punk rock venue for nearly thirty years.

Here is what to expect when taking a toke in Old Dominion:

  1. Your first offense after being caught with less than 1 ounce of weed is a misdemeanor and you are looking at 30 days in lock up with a $500 fine.

  2. After that your time behind bars can be up to 1 year with a $2,500 fine.

  3. Possessing hash and concentrates will earn you a felony with up to $2,500 in fines.

  4. Don’t even think about selling extracts and concentrates.  The Virginia judicial system will rain down fire and brimstone with 5 to 40 years of incarceration and up to a half million bucks in fines.

  5. A law to legalize CBD (SB 701) is currently on Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s desk and ready for a signature.

  6. Virginia passed HB 1445 2015.  The law allows patients with intractable epilepsy to avoid conviction, but not arrest, for possession of CBD.

  7. The law will allow pharmaceutical processors to make CBD oil for patients suffering from intractable epilepsy.

  8. From 2003 through 2013 there was a 76% increase in marijuana possession arrests.  African Americans are 3 times more likely to be arrested than their Caucasian counterparts.

  9. The Flowering Dogwood is both the state tree and the state flower.
