With a vast number of Americans already protesting the impending Trump presidency in a number of ways, the upcoming Presidential Inauguration on January 20 is sure to be a tense affair.

To mellow out the mood, the D.C. Cannabis Coalition announced their plan to provide the green at the political event. The community of growers and smokers will meet that morning at Dupont Circle before descending upon the National Mall to pass out 4,200 joints to the crowd while the inaugural address is taking place.

The proposed plan is to light up four minutes and 20 seconds into Trump’s presidential address. Adam Eidenger, who was majorly influential in spearheading Initiative 71 (which legalized cannabis in Washington D.C.) feels that the crowd will be aware of the demonstration once the smell of marijuana hits them.

“We have to give away marijuana at the Inauguration, we have to encourage people to use marijuana during his speech. I imagine there’ll be the smell of marijuana throughout the Inauguration,” Eidenger said.

While this may sound like a lighthearted (and enjoyable) method of protest, the state of marijuana policy under President Trump is a serious matter. While the President-Elect spoke positively about medical cannabis on the campaign trail, his recent cabinet nominations of outspoken marijuana opponents such as Jeff Sessions and Tom Price leave many in fear of what might be coming.

The Presidential Inauguration has already run into a number of obstacles itself, as it seems that very few well-known musical acts are willing to preform in celebration of Trump. Even those who have accepted the invitation have either been ridiculed or want to use the opportunity to stage their own form of demonstration

If you happen to be one of the many expected protesters at Trump’s upcoming Presidential Inauguration—and need to simmer down during the heated event— be on the look out for these parading cannabis advocates and their massive supply of free joints.
