Damian Marley, the youngest son of Bob Marley and a renowed artist in his own right, has lofty plans to convert the Claremont Custody Center into a 77,000 square foot grow space. Marley is partnering up with Ocean Grown Extracts for what is now being called a case of poetic justice.

"Many people sacrificed so much for the herb over the years who got locked up," Marley told Billboard. "If this [venture] helps people and it's used for medicinal purposes and inspires people, it's a success."

The same prison that used to hold prisoners for marijuana charges will now house marijuana itself. Marley and Ocean Grown Extracts purchased the facility for $4.1 million. The grow house could potentially financially turn around Coalinga, a town that's $3.3 million in debt. This particular venture is expected to create around 100 jobs and supply Coalinga with millions in potential tax revenue.

Ocean Grown and Marley also introduced their new proprietary strain Speak Life. "The OG has always been my favorite," Marley added, speaking of the Speak Life strain. "When they introduced this strain of OG I really loved it and loved its consistency." Speak life is an Indica-dominant 70/30 strain that is reported'y watered and trimmed by hand.

Just two weeks ago, Marley opened his own dispensary Stony Hill in the Mile High City, through yet another partnership, this time with TruCannabis. Marley's 3,000 square foot dispensary, which is appropriately located across from the Mile High Stadium, will be stocked by a 30,000 square foot grow space.

Marley's cross-promotion is becoming more evident, as "Speak Life" is also the name of one of the tracks on Stony Hill, Marley's upcoming fourth album on Republic Records. Interestingly, Marley's latest venture includes no licensing deals.

According to Marley's business manager Dan Dalton, marijuana is paramount towards living a faithful Rastafarian lifestyle. Dropping a reference to the late Peter Tosh, Marley brought up an effort to legalize cannabis that's been around for decades. The Coalinga facility will begin producing extracts within 60 days and by January, the facility will harvest its first crops.
