MERRY JANE and VAPEN Clear CBD are holding an event to discuss the NFL's cannabis prohibition policy during the week of the Super Bowl this February. “Cannabis in Professional Sports” will feature special guests Doctors for Cannabis Regulation (DFCR), who will be discussing their new campaign, “Doctors and Players for NFL Cannabis Reform.” The event aims to highlight the harms of cannabis prohibition within the NFL as well as the many potential benefits of medical marijuana for the league's players.

The event will take place on Wednesday, February 1 at the Revention Music Center in Houston, TX, and is open to the public. Attendees will be able to listen to presentations on a wide variety of topics ranging from the latest cannabis research to issues confronting the NFL with regards to marijuana use. The event will also include player meet-and-greets and a charity auction to benefit the DFCR.

“Cannabis in Professional Sports” will feature members of DFCR's NFL Steering Committee, including former Chicago Bears Quarterback Jim McMahon; former New Orleans Saints Offensive Tackle Kyle Turley; former Denver Broncos Tight End Nate Jackson; and former Chicago Bears Offensive Lineman Eben Britton. DFCR Board member Dr. Sue Sisley, a recent appointee to the NFL Concussion team, will also be appearing along with other DFCR doctors.

The NFL's Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse currently prohibits any player from using cannabis, either for personal or medical reasons. Any player who tests positive can be fined, suspended, or even banished from the league entirely. Cannabis, however, has proven benefits as a treatment for pain and inflammation, as well as a potential neuroprotectant against brain injury. In light of this evidence, the DFCR is hoping that NFL officials will consider changing their restrictive marijuana policy.

“We are thrilled to be bringing this historic event to the public during the week of the big game,” said event producer Rory Mendoza.” We invite everyone to come out and learn more about what’s happening to our football heroes, the laws affecting them and how cannabis can benefit. We intend to educate and inform.”

“Cannabis in Professional Sports is providing an amazing opportunity to build awareness of the important health issues facing professional sports athletes, and MERRY JANE is thrilled to be able to bring the cannabis conversation to the mainstream audience on the kickoff of such an iconic event," said MERRY JANE CEO and Co-Founder, Ted Chung.
